Areas of Practice: Business Law and Strata Law

Jackson is involved in the Business Law practice of the firm. He also has a broad litigation background with considerable experience in the burgeoning area of Strata Law.

Some recent examples of matters he has handled include:

  • Acting on the sale of a multimillion dollar goat abattoir, which comprised a sale of business along with various parcels of land. The sale required significant regulatory approval and received media publicity.
  • Acting for an unsecured creditor of an owners corporation – successfully resisting an application to the Supreme Court for an order to terminate the strata scheme and wind up the debtor owners corporation: The Owners – Strata Plan No 80877 (Mascot Towers) v Lannock Capital 2 Pty Ltd & Ors [2023] NSWSC 140. The case received significant media publicity.
  • Acting for an employer who had issued shares to an employee – negotiating a share buy back from the employee, including drafting all relevant documents.
  • Appearing in the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal obtaining orders compulsorily appointing a strata managing agent to exercise all functions of an owners corporation.
  • Acting for a client in the outdoor advertising industry – negotiating a long term lease of advertising panels located on an overpass, including drafting all relevant documents.
  • Acting for an owner of a strata titled apartment – appearing in the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal obtaining orders requiring an owners corporation to replace a dilapidated mechanical ventilation system.
  • Acting for a lessor of an industrial lease – appearing in the Local Court obtaining judgment for the lessee to pay $171,000 (inclusive of a lump sum costs order) for make good damages.

 

Jackson first joined Somerville Legal in 2019 and his proven track record resulted in the firm making him Special Counsel in 2024.

Personal statement

Jackson is from the Tweed Coast which he regularly visits to spend time with his family and enjoy the warmer weather.
